The Monastery of Montserrat, one of the most emblematic enclaves of Catalonia, began this Saturday, September 7, the celebrations for its thousandth anniversary with a spectacular event that combined tradition and avant-garde. On the opening day, Flock Drone Art presented an innovative drone show, which illuminated the sky above the sacred mountain, creating a perfect synergy between nature, history and technology.
The drone show, organised by the Catalan company, was intended to represent an allegory of Mother Nature, the culture and history of the Montserrat Abbey, giving rise to a night of celebration of lights and emotions through drones that called for an exquisite sensitivity during the Millennium of Montserrat. “We wanted this show to be an experience that would connect people with the ancient history of Montserrat, using 21st century tools to tell a story of faith, culture and nature,” explains Fran Arnau, CEO of Flock Drone Art, adding that “we are thrilled to have been part of this historic celebration, creating something that will remain etched in the memory of all those present.”
Composed of 200 drones that danced in sync with a soundtrack in the heart of Montserrat, the show featured more than 10 figures full of symbolism that wanted to commemorate the thousand years of history since the founding of the Montserrat Monastery. The mix between technology and creativity was prepared Flock Drone Art For this show, he wanted to highlight the impressive setting that surrounded him. Culture, history, spirituality and nature are some of the concepts that the spectators were able to appreciate during the 10-minute show.
“The drones’ play of lights, the choreography performed and the rhythm of the show have made this a unique and never-before-seen show, prepared especially for the event at the Montserrat Monastery. In short, a perfect combination to commemorate such an important date and in such a prominent place,” says Ernest Biosca, Artistic Director of Flock Drone Art, who adds that “the incorporation of a drone show to such an important and traditional event as this one makes the link between new technologies and the legacy of a thousand-year-old tradition of this magnitude take another direction and open up frontiers that had not been explored before.”
This lighting experience is a new way to enjoy a light show with a 100% commitment to the environment and generating zero waste. It is also sensitive to people with hypersensitivity and beloved pets, making it an experience for the whole family on that journey through the natural biodiversity called planet Earth and everything that surrounds it.
The drone show has kicked off a series of commemorative events that will run throughout the year. Activities planned include concerts, exhibitions and religious events, all with the aim of celebrating the profound cultural and spiritual influence that the Monastery has had over the centuries in Catalonia and the world.
